Point Juncture, WA and Heroes and Villains

On the 8th of August, two of Portland's locals performed at Pendleton's cafe The Great Pacific . The crowd consisted mostly of the Pendleton Center for the Arts, Rock n' Roll Camp 2(007) attendees (ranging from the ages of 13 to 17) and the stragglers of mixed ages there to dine.

Point Juncture WA took the stage first, playing one of their more recent songs to be included on their new CD, the details of which are still in the making. Amanda's beats, being complex, exemplify her ability to use unorthodox time signatures keeping the average toe-tapper on their feet. The mixture of bells and guitar feedback create a feeling of dream reminiscence. Sometimes switching instruments and perhaps multitasking they all bring something different. The ending song of their set had two of the members sharing the drums, each hitting the beats at opposite interludes while still managing to sing. The energy of each member, whether sharing instruments or sharing space, is highly defined through their smiles, of which all of them are wearing.

Heroes and Villains, the band that has been rumored to have toured with a circus, give the crowd a feeling of wonderment that seems to come from their talk of the one eyed man or the female snake charmer. This group of melodic voices give a some what political message, with one or two stickers on their equipment to aid this as well. Levi (bass) combined with Scott (drums) could at times make the room a glorifying battle ground of floor-shaking sounds. Receiving standing ovation during their last song that lyrically declared them all children no longer ("We're not children anymore," they sang).

Both of these bands were asked for encores and neither disappointed. While Point Juncture, WA played a song from their EP, Juxtapony, Heroes and Villains decided on two covers that the crowd received with much celebration and dance-"Ape Man" by the Kinks and "Hey Bulldog" by the Beatles , all proving their unquestionable rock credentials. This will not be the last we see of these muscians.
